October 31

HAPPY HALLOWEEN
For Monday, bring in entire poster presentation and independent journal entries.
Recap: Topics are below:

Journal Entry #1
WHO is my person? What is his/her personality like? Where was he born? Where did he go to school? Who may have influenced his nautical career? How do people treat him/her? How does he/she treat people? This is early in the explorer’s career. Based on your imaginary's person's perspective, you are introducing your explorer.USE ACCURATE DATES! THAT"S WHY YOU HAD TO COMPLETE RESEARCH

Journal Entry #2: Explain what is going on in your country during this time period. You can mention Christopher Columbus or any other explorer and talk about how their journeys are influencing your expedition. Make sure that your story is chronological. At this point, you might be at sea already and are reminiscing about What is going on in Europe (Also, use this as an opportunity to talk about life at sea. How are you feeling? Restless? Still excited? Or gloomy? You may not mention much About your explorer. Focus on the PLACE, the WHERE)Mention some names that you learned.

Journal Entry #3
Task: You are sitting down with the explorer himself. (Make up a situation. You might still be on the ship). He is explaining to you WHY he is leading this particular voyage. Be sure to mention the explorer’s reasons and not just the country’s reasons (the one that he is sponsored by). If you are the explorer himself, then imagine that you are having a conversation with a crew member and are reflecting on your own reasons.

702 Entry #4: When were some important events, milestones, or accomplishments that occurred in this explorer’s life? PICK ONE event to write about. (example: When Christopher Columbus's crew first sighted land on October 12, 1492). Pretend that you experienced it. What happened? How did you feel?

731 Entry #4:What were some encounters that your explorer had? What were some difficulties? (example: When Columbus realized that the Native Americans he encountered did not possess the riches he desired).

Entry #5 (702):What were some difficulties your explorer faced? Choose one to write about. How did he react to this?(i.e., Eric Lopez describes how Columbus encountered ‘Indians’ in the Caribbean. He mistakenly believes that they are from India and find out that they do not carry the riches they are searching for…)

Entry #5 (731):When were some important milestones/accomplishments or significant events in your explorer's life during the Age of Exploration (What were they?) Use one for your journal entry.

Journal entry #6 (Last one!)
How did his/her actions impact or change the Americas? (In can be years in the future and you are reflecting back, you could even be a ghost in the 21st century and you are noticing the how your person influenced the growth of the United States). Remember to keep the flow! You can also explain what happened to your explorer (what happened to him, how he died, etc.)
