Your job is to try to get as many people as you can to settle in that specific colony in order for it to become successful. What are some positive traits and characteristics that you can focus? What type of jobs would people have? These are jobs that might possible make them wealthy? Remember, your job is to embellish facts in order to persuade and encourage people to live there (example: Do not say that the southern colonies are ‘hot and humid’. Instead, say ‘warm and sunny’) Be enthusiastic and have fun with it! Use your research and use real facts! Follow sample shown in class

USE RUBRIC TO HELP YOU

Virginia, A Grand World Away
Tired of cold, dark, gloomy England? Would you like to start a new life with your family far, far away? Then come to Virginia, where it’s always warm and beautiful. Our capital city Jamestown, founded in 1607, is the first permanent and highly successful colony.
Enjoy a fresh start as a farmer. Here you can start a lucrative business in the farming industry. Tobacco and other cash crops flourish in the warm and sunny climate of the southern colonies. You can grow almost anything AND sell it for profits. You can even meet John Rolfe who will gladly teach you how to start your own farm.
Virginia is also conveniently located near the Atlantic Ocean and James River. If you’re missing your family in England, you can visit them anytime with our many seaports at your disposal. Ships are always ready to set sail from the Chesapeake Bay. You can easily have your crops exported out of the New World and into the Old World (maybe into the homes of your family in England).
Need help with chores? Here you will find plenty of indentured servants and slaves who are more than happy to serve your every need. Indentured servants, who are here from England, need to pay off their debt so they will be practically lining up to become your household servants. In addition, there are friendly native Americans who live nearby. The Powhatan tribe members are always ready to lend a hand and offer protection from other hostile natives.
Still unsure? Think no more! You will be creating great investments into the future of your family. Imagine all the opportunities that await you here. Come to the Virginia Colony, a grand world away!!
